Meet Rhiannon – The quieter Company director, student, Daryl whisperer and Stranger Things obsessive.
My name is Rhiannon Squance, and I am a co-director of Complete Communication, which is part of The Inclusivity Group! We recently decided to adopt a seat at the Exeter Northcott Theatre, and it was a very easy decision.
We don’t just have the pleasure of working collaboratively with the Northcott Theatre professionally; we’re really big fans of coming to see the various shows they have on here. Living in Plymouth makes it accessible for us to do this and we love the range of theatre, comedy, and shows we can bring our kids to.
Being able to provide this sponsorship means that we can be part of the story and the journey of ensuring performances are accessible. We can also do our best to continue to ensure their amazing community initiatives continue, which is something we can be proud of.
Throughout the development of our company and striving to branch out our access provisions in the arts throughout the Southwest and further afield, the Northcott has been one of our longest supporters. They were one of the first to buy into us as a concept and the style and type of access they provide is just what we look to promote, and provide ourselves. We definitely don’t take this for granted, so of course we want to return the favour by providing this sponsorship.
The partnership we’ve had with Exeter Northcott has spanned over six years now. This has been a collaborative and tireless effort to improve and increase the amount of accessible shows that take place for the audiences that need them. This includes the quantity of BSL interpreted performances that take place, putting on relaxed performances, captioned performances, and in-house training such as introduction to BSL, and deaf and disability awareness for the front of house staff. All of this and continuing to support each other with advice, guidance and at times, a friendly voice at the end of a phone.
Our hope is that having these provisions in place will generate and encourage more people to come to the theatre and experience the arts and shows that they may have missed before – which we feel is invaluable as theatre should be an inclusive and joyous experience for all.
